Suicide Prevention Training
Every year more people die by committing suicide than from all of the armed conflicts around the world. As many as 6% of the population worldwide have serious thoughts of suicide each year. Applied Suicide Intervention Skills (ASIST) Training is a two-day intensive interactive workshop that trains caregivers to prevent the immediate risk of suicide.
KSL’s team of highly experienced ASIST accredited trainers ensures the training is provided to the highest standards. We research into your exact needs pre-course to better cater to your specific demands. We provide you with a database of resources and a set of hand-out materials to use post-course.

ASIST was developed by the LivingWorks organisation in Canada. Our accredited instructors follow the five learning sections of its internationally recognised programme:
1. Preparing: sets the tone, norms, and expectations of the learning experience.
2. Connecting : sensitises participants to their own attitudes towards suicide. Creates an understanding of the impact which attitudes have on the intervention process.
3. Understanding: overviews the intervention needs of a person at risk. It focusses on providing participants with the knowledge and skills to recognize risk and develop safeplans to reduce the risk of suicide.
4. Assisting: presents a model for effective suicide intervention. Participants develop their skills through observation and supervised simulation experiences in large and small groups.
5. Networking: generates information about resources in the local community. Promotes a commitment by participants to transform local resources into helping networks.

ASIST is suitable for everyone involved in “care-giving”, including: community volunteers, mental health professionals, nurses, teachers, councilors, youth and adults workers, police and faith leaders, workers in health, welfare or justice.
